Do I Prefer Left Field Or Right Field?

Now that I have 7 games under my belt, 5 times in Right Field, and twice in Left Field, I've concluded that there is a significant difference between the two assignments, and I do actually have a preference. To understand my choice, you need to picture in your mind, that whether I'm in Left or Right Field, I'm sitting there facing the batter, with my glove on my left hand.

When I'm in Left Field, my glove is on the "field side" of my body, and with most of the plays coming towards me, or to my left, there is a slight advantage to having my glove already on that side to "reach out" to make the play, which makes those plays a bit easier. Also, in Left Field, you're on The Diamondbacks side of the field, so the fans are mostly also on your side.

In contrast, when I'm stationed in Right Field, my glove hand is still to the left, but now it's against the wall, and with most of the plays coming at me, or to my right, this means that to make the play, I either need to reach across my body and "back hand" the ball, or jump up quickly enough to read and position myself for the ricochet off the wall. Either one of those plays is way more difficult than those in Left Field. Plus, the majority of the fans on that side of the field are rooting for the opponent, so I have to be extra nice, and no players usually fist bump me. So, all things considered, it should be obvious which side of the field I prefer, It's.......

Right Field.

WHAT? Oh, I may have neglected to mention, that I've gotten WAY MORE baseballs hit to me, and thrown to me by players in Right Field then in Left. and you KNOW how much I love giving away those baseballs, right?

I am always Very Careful, not to take any balls from the dugout or the bullpen, nor any that may be lying around pregame, because all of those belong to the team, but any foul balls hit to me, or thrown to me by a player, I give away, and for whatever reason, it's happened to me a lot more in Right Field than Left. In fact, my record giveaway game was 12 baseballs! So give me Right Field over Left Field, any day of the week, and twice on Sunday, I LOVE IT!

A bit long, but some background is needed. You may, or may not have noticed, The Golden Glover Uniform, is all black. The DBacks provide the batting helmet, the polo shirt, and the fanny pack for ball storage, and The Golden Glover provides the glove, black pants and shoes. According to the orientation meeting, all neon shoe colors were prohibited, and the preferred shoe colors were black, blue, or white. Soon afterwards, I noticed that with one exception (looking at you Bill), all of the other Golden Glovers wore either black or blue shoes, so I got the idea that in order to "stand out" I would wear white shoes. In that way, even if I didn't get camera time, or announcer mention, I could still easily pick myself out in the background during the following days television replay. The Best Thing About Being A GG..... So Far

Now that I've had the opportunity to have a few games under my belt, I've also had the opportunity to experience my favorite part of being a Golden Glover..... So Far.  It's not the amazing attitudes and camaraderie of my co-workers, it's not the chance to be a part of a game I've loved my whole life, it's not even getting introduced on The Jumbotron. All of those things ARE true, and great, but I have to say, that my favorite part of being a Golden Glover so far is..... Giving away the baseballs. The fans faces always light up like it's the best thing that's ever happened to them, and I Love Them All! There are though, a few that especially stand out.....
