I Gave My First Autograph!

So, I almost forgot to tell you, at my second GG Game, I had a fan ask for my autograph!

I was covering a game for an ill Glover, so I had 2 games in a row, back to back, and both in Right Field. During the second game pregame chit chat with the fans, a middle aged gentleman came down to the rail, AND ASKED ME FOR MY AUTOGRAPH!  Seriously!

At first I was a bit stunned, and so I said "Really? No, you don't really want my autograph, I'm nobody important.", and he said..... "Yes you are, yesterday you gave my son a baseball, and it made him so happy, he hasn't stopped talking about it yet." Holy cannoli, I guess you really can't tell how big a deal you can make in someone's life. 

At that moment, I also remembered that one of The Diamondbacks goals when dealing with fans is an acronym "FAWTSY" which means "Find A Way To Say Yes", so I said, "In that case, I would be honored to sign your autograph book, Thank you so much". He said "No, Thank You"! So I signed it: Thomas "Chips A" Hoey, Golden Glover 2025.

It was a great moment, for myself, and the fan, and also, believe it or not, in my 65 years of life, this was my very first autograph. 😁

It's All About The Shoes

A bit long, but some background is needed. You may, or may not have noticed, The Golden Glover Uniform, is all black. The DBacks provide the batting helmet, the polo shirt, and the fanny pack for ball storage, and The Golden Glover provides the glove, black pants and shoes. According to the orientation meeting, all neon shoe colors were prohibited, and the preferred shoe colors were black, blue, or white. Soon afterwards, I noticed that with one exception (looking at you Bill), all of the other Golden Glovers wore either black or blue shoes, so I got the idea that in order to "stand out" I would wear white shoes. In that way, even if I didn't get camera time, or announcer mention, I could still easily pick myself out in the background during the following days television replay. The Best Thing About Being A GG..... So Far

Now that I've had the opportunity to have a few games under my belt, I've also had the opportunity to experience my favorite part of being a Golden Glover..... So Far.  It's not the amazing attitudes and camaraderie of my co-workers, it's not the chance to be a part of a game I've loved my whole life, it's not even getting introduced on The Jumbotron. All of those things ARE true, and great, but I have to say, that my favorite part of being a Golden Glover so far is..... Giving away the baseballs. The fans faces always light up like it's the best thing that's ever happened to them, and I Love Them All! There are though, a few that especially stand out..... The Senior Citizen gentleman, wearing a Veterans cap. He later told me that he had been waiting more than 40 years to get a ball. My Pleasure Sir. The couple with the young baby. Do I Prefer Left Field Or Right Field?

Now that I have 7 games under my belt, 5 times in Right Field, and twice in Left Field, I've concluded that there is a significant difference between the two assignments, and I do actually have a preference. To understand my choice, you need to picture in your mind, that whether I'm in Left or Right Field, I'm sitting there facing the batter, with my glove on my left hand. When I'm in Left Field, my glove is on the "field side" of my body, and with most of the plays coming towards me, or to my left, there is a slight advantage to having my glove already on that side to "reach out" to make the play, which makes those plays a bit easier. Also, in Left Field, you're on The Diamondbacks side of the field, so the fans are mostly also on your side.
